Position Reference: CGD:ERM Reports To: Human Resources Director Job Purpose: Develop and lead the Employee Relations strategy that deliver the People Promises, 'To Be Treated With Respect', 'A Manager Who Helps Me', 'An Interesting Job' and 'An Opportunity To Get On', so that Tesco is a great place to work. Job Accountabilities: Develop and recommend an effective Employee Relations strategy so that so that country employment practices are legal and compliant with group standards and become a distinctive advantage over time; Using the Group models, develop comprehensive documented people policies, which work. Lead the implementation of these processes through an effective and ongoing communications plan; Using Group models, develop effective disciplinary and grievance policies and processes.Manage the implementation of these processes through Personnel Managers to ensure legal compliance; Challenge current employment practices where necessary and influence changes in policy accordingly; In conjunction with Trading Law and Technical, ensure we operate within Group and country Health and Safety policies and processes; Consult and work with relevant Group Personnel teams to implement best practice policies and processes and share knowledge and experience with them to help inform their thinking; Ensure Personnel Operations are equipped and skilled to coach people managers in new personnel policy and employment legislation changes as appropriate, Produce regular communication of employment law updates and issue to Personnel and People Managers; Where appropriate, facilitate the relationships between the company and trade unions in line with any Group approved agreements; Develop consultation processes with Government, where possible, regarding proposed changes to Employment Law and manage the implementation of changes into the people policies; Provide strong leadership which role models Tesco values and demonstrates cultural awareness; Lead, coach and motivate the team to deliver objectives and consistently work towards adding value to the business. Manage the performance of all staff recognising their contribution and ensuring continuous improvement through active Personal Development Plans; Fulfill your duties as a member of the Personnel leadership team taking collective responsibility for performance, supporting colleagues and contributing to general business decisions; Manage the Employee Relations budget and ensure any settlement agreements for bad leavers do not put the company at a financial risk; Forecast and manage cost centre expenditure within budget ensuring effective use and control; Key Interdependencies: Country leadership team, Personnel Manager in Regions, Stores and Office, Legal department, Government employment law departments and applicable local government departments, Group Personnel - Employee Relations team, Skills and Experience Required: 5+ years personnel experience with 1-2 years employment law or employee relations experience, Relevant degree and/or professional qualifications, Able to deliver real improvement - able to get things done, strong influencing skills, good communication skills with all levels of the business, A strong intuitive understanding of what motivates people and an ability to champion the people agenda in the delivery of change, Strong analytical and strategic thinking skills.
